The Deaconate
In other words, the office of deacon is primarily a position of service and not of leadership. Effective deacons are aware of the needs of the church’s members, and they labor to meet those needs. Effective deacons care for the business matters of the church, ensuring decency and orders in the care of resources. By taking these burdens out of the hands of pastors, they liberate the church’s spiritual leadership for their specific tasks of ministry.
